This is the phase in which students acknowledge themselves as learners and gain the autonomy to seek knowledge and responsibility to face the challenges that will come ahead.
In Elementary School, classes are taught in Portuguese during one half of the teaching day and in English for the other. The English speaking curriculum employs the IPC (International Primary Curriculum).
The national and international curriculums are integrated in such a way that the same concept can be addressed in either language, with different approaches and emphases for each language. The collaborative work between the Portuguese and English teams leads to more dynamic and multicultural learning.
Some classrooms of Elementary School are separated by retractable walls, which can be opened, integrating the spaces and allowing classes to conduct activities together, across the English and Portuguese curriculums, as well as across different years. This encourages staff to plan collaboratively and to plan for projects that favor social interaction, investigation and group reflection.
